Mauritania and Rwanda Nationals charged with attempting to steal 1.2B shillings

Two foreigners have been arraigned in court and charged with forgery and attempting to steal  1.2 billion

Hmeyada Abdellahi and Gahonzire Richard Mauritania and Rwanda Nationals respectively  appeared before a Nairobi magistrate court for plea taking but did not plead  to the charges.

According to the charge sheet they face  11 counts of forgery and attempting to steal

Particulars of the offence are that on 20thDecember 2018 at unknown place jointly with others not before court with inte4nt to defraud fortged a certain document namely international E-check debit, Number 301218027 for USD 3,000,000  payable to Agence Mauritanienne pour la peche purporting to be genuine and valid cheque issued by Barclays bank PLC.

They also denied charges of uttering a false document contrary to the law, particulars are that on 14th December 2018 at Barclays bank of Kenya plaza corporate service center in Nairobi knowingly and fraudulently uttered a certain false document namely international E –check debit for USD 3,000,000 to Josephat kyalo katua a teller with the said bank.

The two also denied charges of attempting to steal USD 12,900,000 ,particulars are that on 14thJanuary 2019 at Barclays bank of Kenya plaza cooperate service center in Nairobi they attempted to steal the said amount the property of Barclays bank of Kenya.

Their advocate asked magistrate Hellen OKwani to allow  Gahonzire Richard to access his medication at the hotel he was staying in Nairobi saying the accused was a cancer patient and he was not in good state to plead to the charges.

The magistrate allowed the application and ordered the police to excort him to the hotel to access his medication.
