A Kibera court has ordered the detention of Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi for 14 days at Kilimani Police Station as investigations continue into the brutal killing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer manning a security barrier at State House Gate ‘D’.
The suspect was arrested on October 13, 2025,near Dennis Pritt Road,after allegedly launching a deadly attack on GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka,who was on duty at the time. According to preliminary police reports, Musyimi was disguised as a street dweller and was carrying a blue sack that concealed a bow and arrows
At approximately 8:10 a.m,Musyimi allegedly took cover behind a vehicle undergoing routine security checks at the gate, before suddenly drawing the bow and releasing an arrow that struck Officer Matanka in the left side of the chest,causing massive bleeding. The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH),where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The investigation is being led by Inspector Bashir Boya,an officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kilimani. The officer has requested the 14-day detention period to allow police to conduct several key investigative actions. These include:Recording witness statements;Retrieving and reviewing CCTV footage from the gate and IC3 cameras along Dennis Pritt Road;Obtaining call data from the suspect’s mobile phone;Lifting fingerprints and profiling the suspect for any prior criminal record;Conducting a mental health assessmentat KNH;Performing an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
The application filed before the court emphasized that the suspect has no known place of abode and his employment status is unknown, making him a potential flight risk,Authorities expressed concern that releasing him on bond could lead to him absconding, which would jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
The investigators are also exploring the possibility that Musyimi may have had accomplices,and are working to determine the motive behind the fatal attack on the officer, who was tasked with securing the head of state.
Once the investigations are complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)for further direction.
