A Nairobi magistrate court has granted police 3days to investigate a salesman Shariff Mohammed Ali for manufacturing prohibited polythene bags.
The investigating officer told the court that Sharif was arrested in pangani in possession of a refugee ID card.
They are investigating manufacturing of polythene bags along alizeti crecent off road in industrial area.
The police told the court that they require 3days to investigate the authenticity of the refugee card and arrest other suspects in connection with the manufacturing of the bags.
They told the court that the suspect is at flight risk and he has no fixed place of abode.
The court granted the police the time they requested to detain Sharif at the Parklands police station.
The court heard the offence was “discovered” being committed on January 28 2019 along Alizeti Crescent off Road A in Industrial area at a factory where “patrons fled.”
The court was also told that NEMA agents stormed Sharif’s hideout and seized samples from the scene but are yet to provide a conclusive report.
Sharif was arrested on January 30 2019 at Pangani, Nairobi, the court heard.
“Investigations are yet to be completed thus praying the respondent be detained to facilitate completion of investigations with an aim of establishing his status and the proper charges to prefer,” police constable Muriithi Murere told the court.
