American National in court over rape allegations.

King Nwachukwu in court.
19-year-old Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student has accused an American national of rape following a Tinder date at a luxury apartment in Westlands, Nairobi.

The suspect, identified as King Nwachukwu, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul at the Kibera Law Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nwachukwu was arrested following a report made at Parklands Police Station after the alleged incident at the GTC Residence in Westlands.

According to the prosecution, the student met Nwachukwu on the dating application before the two agreed to meet at the Westlands apartment.

Police allege that the encounter turned violent, with Nwachukwu allegedly taking the student’s belongings before dragging her into a bedroom.

The prosecution further alleges that the student was sexually assaulted several times without her consent.

The student told police that the alleged ordeal continued after she declined further sexual engagement.

She reportedly told investigators that she was subjected to further physical violations, forced to take a shower and made to ingest unidentified pills before being chased out of the apartment.

The student subsequently reported the matter to Parklands Police Station, prompting investigations that led to Nwachukwu’s arrest.

According to the charge sheet, Nwachukwu faces a main charge of rape and an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with an adult.

The court was told that the accused would remain in custody as the matter proceeds.

During Monday’s proceedings, Magistrate Abdul directed that the miscellaneous application be closed after hearing the application before her.

Having been the court which has heard the miscellaneous application in this case, I will therefore give directions that the miscellaneous file be closed. This matter will come up on the 31st of August before another court,” Abdul said.

The court directed that Nwachukwu’s formal bond application be heard on August 31, when a pre-bail report is also expected to be presented.

He will remain in custody until then.

The student has also appealed to other women who may have had similar encounters with the accused to come forward and assist with investigations.
