A businessman has been charged in court with forging Engineers Board of Kenya Certificate of good conduct and National construction Authority Certificate purporting to be genuine documents issued by the board to win a Ksh8.1. tender.
Franklin Akoko Onyango who has been arreigned and charged at Milimani Law Court Nairobi is alleged to have drilled a sub -standard borehole at a primary school in Homabay county which prompted the complainant to investigate his qualifications.
The businessman who is facing five counts of forgery contrary to the law is alleged to have committed the offence at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud.
“You are charged that at unknown date and place within the republic of Kenya and without lawful authority, made Engineers Board of Kenya Certificate of Good Standing of Serial No. EBK/2021/Rea.No/H11340 for Eng. Akoko Franklin Onyango of Registration number H11340/21 dated 2 day of January 2021 purporting it to be genuine certificate of good standing issued by Engineers Board of Kenya” read the charge sheet in count one.
In count two the accused is alleged to have made a National Construction Authority Certificate of Registration of Serial No. 229039 for Fastech Green Systems Ltd of Registration number 17248/W/0515 dated 28 day of July 2019 purporting it to be genuine Certificate of Registration issued by National Construction Authority.
According to a police report tabled in court the complainant in the matter with his friends who are alumni of the primary school in Homabay county decided to drill a bore hole as an appreciation to the school.
“The complainant was tasked in looking for an engineer who is an expert for the job, that is when the complainant was introduced to the accused by his friend” read the report in part.
According to the police report the accused presented the forged documents and was awarded the tender and Ksh 3M was deposited in his account as an instalment for the construction.
The compainant told the police that the drilling and the construction was done by the accused but later his friend noted it to be shoddy and did not meet the required standard.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was released on a cashbail of Ksh 50,000.
