A business man and a business woman have been charged in court for being in possession of 4043 cartons of fake Vodka alcohol.
Eunice Marango Wanjiku andStephen Thiku Kairu who were arraigned at Milimani Law Courts Nairobi we’re also charged with being in possession of 37 drums of Ethanol valued at Ksh3.4M.
“You are both charged that on May, 4th 2022 at Maruti building in Athi River within Machakos County in the Republic of Kenya, were found in possession of 1624 cartons of Visca Vodka of 250 ml, 2689 cartons of Kingstone master vodka of 250ml and 1354 cartons of Venice Vodka of 250ml all affixed with counterfeit excise stamps occasioning the Commissioner Domestic Taxes an Excise Duty loss of Kshs 1,000,000/= and Value Added Tax loss of Kshs.2,000,000/” read the charge sheet in part.
The two who face three counts are also charged with being in possession of uncustomed goods contrary to the law and being in possession of excisable stamps made without the authority of Kenya Revenue Authority.
They denied the charges before chief magistrate Wendy Micheni and were released on a cash ail of Ksh100,000 each.
